A Message to Players Interested in the TAP League!
Thank you for your interest in the TAP League
The TAP League is planning to start the Fall 2011 sessions on October 18-19 & 20 (depending on what night you chose to play) and this letter is designed to give you more information about the TAP league and how it works.
First of all, we are one of the largest “National” leagues in Arizona and play in several locations all over the valley each week. “National” means that TAP resides in just about every state in the U.S. plus Canada and at the end of the year, TAP holds a National Event where, teams who qualify. can play for a chance to win a $10,000 grand prize. Teams going to Nationals have hotel, transportation and entry fee into the tournament paid.
Now, getting down to the grass roots level – below is an overview of the TAP criteria for a team.
Here are the highlights:
Five matches are played each night – five points are distributed based on how many of your team mates win their matches – a team can have up to 8 players on your roster. Each team needs a captain as a coordinator and manager of the team.
Call pocket (you must call which ball is going into which pocket) – AND - Ball-in-hand rules (if your opponent commits a foul, you get to place the ball anywhere on the table for your next shot)
Handicap ratings are from 2-7 (2 being a brand new player and 7 being the highest) – you can play a team total of 25 handicap points each night. This rule is in place, so one team cannot be stacked with all 7’s and win every session. It’s a match race between opponents (EXAMPLE: If a handicap 4 is playing a handicap 5; the 4 would have to win 3 games before the 5 won 4 games to win the match). The higher ranked you are the more games you have to win to win your match.
$20 annual membership to the TAP national organization and $7 per night per player ($7 X 5 matches = $35 for the team) plus table time (varies depending on bar locations).
14 week regular session plus a playoff week.
At the end of each session (there are 3 per year) – the top three teams who have earned the most points plus a “Wild Card” team will receive cash payback and the top team will receive a “team” trophy. All four will then play in a tournament that is the 2nd qualifier on the road to the Nationals.
Scoring is kept for each match – the history of each ball (completed/missed/defensive, etc.) is tallied and input into a handicap system where players receive their own password to check to see how they are performing. Your handicap level is adjusted based on your performance on the table and is an average of several matches.
All new players are invited to a “Rules & Scoring” meeting prior to the start date to get familiar with the rules and paperwork.
Please take a moment and review our web site for additional photo's and information. If you have friends who would like to join, as well – I’m sure I can find a team for everyone.
