Ok, last time I wrote about negativity - although I spelled it wrong. This week I want to talk about being a realist. When I instruct someone in this game I tell them "don't let your ego play the shot, your ego never held a cue stick."
Someone was telling me the other night, as we were playing one pocket, that a particular shot was "easy." I asked him what percentage he would place on the shot. He said 60%. I told him I would bet $1.00 per shot that he was wrong - that He could not make the shot 6 out of 10 times. He did not take me up on the bet, he shot the "easy" shot and missed. He lost the game.
Now I am not saying be a pessimist, don't think your going to miss a shot, because then you will. What I am saying is be realistic about your skill level. Do not listen to your ego. When you are in competition you really want to win, even if your not gambling, it is time to play the high percentage shots that will get you to the bottom line...WINNING THE GAME! It is not the time to play low percentage shots.
The time to play those lower percentage shots is when you practicing by yourself, to make them a part of your sub conscious. Shoot them over and over again until you are sure of them.
