2009 Player Fund/Nationals Format
Wednesday, 08 October 2008
“Why not raise the dues to $8 and use the extra dollar to send more teams – “I want a free ride and don’t mind paying the extra dollar”?
That would be a great idea; however, during this time of economic stress, we believe that would be a difficult “sell” to the players. We have had other players the dues are too high now, and we should reduce them. Remember, two years ago, we raised the dues by one dollar and we had numerous complaints about that. And, when we did so, we still only kept .40 out of that dollar and gave .60 back to the player payback – and there was still complaining. This player doesn’t want to pay any extra money and wants a free ride, but is willing to pay extra money all year long in hopes to getting one of the National spots.
Remember that we have implemented 4 other programs to generate additional national funding; but, with the costs of hotel and airfare going through the roof and no expectation of it decreasing in the future, it’s unlikely that we will EVER be able to send more than 4 teams to the Nationals if we continue to follow the same path. The new program will allow us to offer 12 National spots, even though the teams may have to pay part of their expenses.

I don't believe a free ride was ever the intention. The spots are paid either way you just have to work harder at getting there if there are less spots to play for or you have to pay a little more to get there. The funds paying for the expenses came from the players in the first place,so how could it be considered a free ride.Under the new proposal only the first place, maybe then second would be able to afford to go the rest would have to come up with $1000 or more to cover expenses.

We just copied the response from one of the forms and posted it and it was in reference to raising the dues to $1. Under the new proposal, there will actually be even more teams that will be able to go to Nationals even though some of them may have to add a little bit of their own money. If we continue the current program, unless you are one of the best 3 or 4 teams, you spend all year working for nothing. We, and 93% of the players, don't believe that's a fair distribution of your money. The purpose of this plan is to protect your money and increase your opportunity for the future.
