I like going into a bar room any where in the world and if there is a pool table there, within an hour you will have some one to talk to. Doesn?t make any difference if you speak the same language or not, the language of pool is the same all over the world.
I like listening to friends play pool. They yell, they call either other names, and they have a great time doing it.
I like playing in leagues, the competition is high, and the camaraderie is prevalent throughout the room. I have had people play in a league and their whole week revolves around the night they play pool.
I like running the table, I like seeing my opponent run the table, I like making a 3-rail bank, and I like making the cue ball just sneak behind a ball for a tight safety. I hate it when my opponent does that to me, but it makes for an interesting shot trying to make a good hit on the cue ball.
And even though I don?t drink very often I like the fun of having a drink with my buddies. I like the smoke filled rooms that the game is played in. My wife hates the smell of my clothes when I come home from playing pool. Thank God for bad sinuses.
I like coming home with a bit more money in my jeans than when I left, but my gambling is very limited. Limited to people who I can beat.
I like watching my opponents play and try to find weakness in their game, reading their faces to see if they like what I left them. Or to see if there is anyway I can help them improve their game.
